Dogs have been welcome at Newton House for hundreds of years. In fact, they have probably always been welcome – since there are some ‘Newton Hounds’ in the original stonework of the building. We even have a ghost dog (in the main building), seen by a previous owner. Today we welcome well behaved dogs – with responsible owners – for a small extra charge.  We accept up to two dogs at a time, and charge an additional £10 a night for each dog (this helps to cover additional cleaning costs).

At Newton House we understand that your dog is an important member of your family, so why would you leave him behind? We will do all we can to make you and your dog(s) welcome, whether you are enjoying a short break, or stopping off for an overnight stay on your journey from the North to the South – or the South and the North (Newton House is in the middle of the British Isles, and is just 5 minutes from the A1M).

We also welcome dogs with their owners who are relocating with their work, or just want to bring their dog with them when travelling on business. We can organise dog-walking and dog-sitting. And, if your dog would like a bit of pampering while you are away, then we can arrange a mobile grooming service. And the Vet is just down the road (but don’t tell your dog!).

We have two ‘dog-friendly’ rooms (Rooms 10 and 11). These are our ‘Stable’ rooms which have direct access from the courtyard car park. They are both Superior Double or Twin ‘Roomy’ Rooms. They can also be family rooms sleeping a family of two adults and up to two children.

We may be in the middle of town but there are lots of interesting places to walk and explore, and there are lots of friendly dogs in Knaresborough. For Dog-Friendly Places to Visit – MORE…

Denise is usually on hand for advice on dog walks, pubs and places to eat with your dog.

Other Pets

We don’t just make dogs welcome at Newton House. We have had a couple of cats stay with us (Mr Donut whose owner was relocating from Cyprus to Knaresborough), and some other cats who were moving house from the south of England to Scotland – an overnight stay at Newton House on the way made the move less stressful for them and their owners.

The Small Animal Show takes place at The Great Yorkshire Showground in January and we have exhibitors with their guinea pigs and miniature rabbits staying here.

To book please call Denise – we like to take your bookings over the phone to ensure we have your requirements just right.
